Flame Forest

Sometimes I just fall in love with a fabric and have to make a quilt just to use it. This is my relationship with Carolyn Friedlander‘s stem print from Botanics in Tangerine.

So I decided to add some natural linen and make log cabin cross blocks. I used the block from the modern cross quilt Modern Log Cabin Quilting by Susan Beal.

Of course I had to reverse one block for an accent square.

I had some help on this project!! The ironing fairy was a dream during the Sewingly Yours lock in. And my sweet friend Gail did the binding. She’s my favorite.

For the back, I made five extra blocks into a cross. The backing is the same stem print in a different colorway.

I quilted with little loops in rows.

This one is living with me!

  1. This quilt it packed with personality! I love what you have done with these fabrics…what a winner!

  2. Looks fabulous Lee! I am not a big fan of oranges, but I think I might be outgrowing that now though… I am following a block of the month and the fabrics I chose out of my stash are of the orange colour family, and so far so good LOL I know… Why do I have oranges in my stash if it’s not a colour I like? Well, just because… You never know when it might work with something else :)
