I woke up this morning to my calendar telling me it’s my Blogoversary! This was news on a few fronts: A. I definitely did not remember the date. B. I definitely had no idea that I had a calendar alert set for such a thing! C. How would I celebrate?! Here’s what I decided…it’s all about FIVES!
There will be FIVE WINNERS who will choose FIVE PATTERNS each. All you have to do to enter is tell me your TOP FIVE in sewing! Top five what you might ask…whatever you want! You can name your top FIVE FABRIC DESIGNERS or your top FIVE SEWING TOOLS or your top FIVE PLACES for sewing inspiration! Plus you get FIVE BONUS entries if your list is something that no one else has listed! Creativity counts my friends:) Just leave your TOP FIVE in the comment section.
My trusty sidekick is napping now but he’s excited to read your entries and randomly draw FIVE WINNERS! Entries open for FIVE DAYS until June 21! I’ll be sharing some fun things during those five days. Get ready!
Entries are open internationally. One entry per person:) The winner will get to choose whichever FIVE May Chappell patterns that their heart desires!
Today is my stop on Pat Sloan’s book tour! This is Pat’s 33rd book. If my blog used emojis, I would totally use the little face with the giant eyes! This one is part of her Teach Me series and focuses on machine quilting. It’s called Teach Me to Machine Quilt!
Pat asked us to read the book and highlight a few of our favorite parts. Well, I took 37 pictures of things to highlight! I’ve narrowed it down just a bit:) There are so many wonderful things in here. If you’re new to machine quilting, this is an excellent place to start. And if you’re already experienced, there are tons of great reminders and tips to add to your skill set!
Pat takes you through every single detail you need for success with machine quilting. I don’t think there’s a single question or topic not covered. It is a great resource! With machine quilting, you just have to start! Pat has a really great section about making five baby quilts to get started!
One of my favorite things is that this book has video tutorials that you can link to! It’s such a great feature.
Each topic is covered with a wide range of options. Plus throughout the book, you’ll enjoy Pat’s can-do attitude and fun little quotes!
Are you ready for the most excellent part, Martingale is giving away FIVE copies of this awesomeness! You can go here for details. Plus, we did promise a MEGA blog tour, so make sure you check out all the stops!
Today is my blogoversary! It’s been four years since I started my little corner of the interwebs. I love chronicling my projects, sharing my students’ work and teaching a tip or two. I’m always torn about how to celebrate. There have been some fun giveaways and recaps. This year I decided on GIVEAWAY! There’s a bit of a twist…I’m going to create a large size flat rate box of quilty goodness specifically for the winner! What might you win? Scraps and fat quarters and maybe even a yard or two from my stash!
I’ll have to choose a notion or two that I love! Maybe it’ll be my favorite pins? Maybe it’ll be a tool I’ve featured? Bottle of Flatter anyone? I bet there will be patterns!
And finally, I’ll be making something! From mini quilt to pouch to tote…it could be anything! So how do you enter? Just leave a comment below telling me about you! Share your favorite colors, patterns, designers and anything else you want. US & International welcome. Entries open until next Tuesday, June 21! Mack the Chihuahua will select a winner using his magical powers (and/or the random number generator). And I might even choose a bonus winner with a really good answer!
It’s time to announce the winners of The Giveaway! I’m in Florida and Mack the Chihuahua is safely tucked away with The Guru and Mr Guru. Obviously I was not thinking. I had to use a substitute (but Mack approved) picker of random numbers…meet Lucy and Oliver (who I’ve nicknamed Scrapples).
First up is the winner of the scraps!! Congrats number 238!
Next up is the winner of the charms! Congrats number 299!!
Plus I picked an international winner! You’ll get a free PDF pattern. I know it’s not a box of scraps, but I hated to leave you out:)
There were a few funny Snazzle comments, so I just randomly picked one! You’re also getting a free PDF pattern!
Congrats to all the winners!! I’ve emailed you so that you can claim your prize!
This is my 500th post! I’ve been plotting it forever and life kept happening. But here we are. There are tons of new and exciting things to tell you about!! And loads of projects to catch you up on! But let’s start with some big (personal) news…I’ve moved! Same cute town; new (old) cottage:) Here’s a sneak of the new studio!
There will be a full tour soon! It’s a small space so I’m now full of tips to maximizing and organization. During the move, LOTS of fabric had to find a new home and I saved some good stuff for a GIVEAWAY! There are TWO prizes!!
First up is 500 rainbow charms! Lots are from swaps; some I cut from my stash! There are definitely some hidden gems in there.
The other prize is 500 pieces of scrap! It’s A LOT of fabric!! The pieces range from small scraps to fat quarter with even a half yard or two.
Enter once or enter a bunch of times with all these ways:

Entries open until next Tuesday, January 26! Mack the Chihuahua will select a winner using his magical powers (and/or the random number generator).
I’ve just returned from Quilt Market and I’m brimming with new ideas and projects to tell you about! But first, we needed a winner for the Sew Adorkable GIVEAWAY. Congrats to Carmen aka number fourteen.
The poor thing got the measles in third grade so hopefully this hilarious and awesome book will help ease a bit of that memory.
Today is my stop on the Good Neighbors Pincushion Party! Amanda Jean Nyberg of Crazy Mom Quilts designed a new line of fabric with Connecting Threads. It’s full of fun bright prints! The prints work wonderfully together but also are great stash builders for patchwork. They’re exactly what you’d expect from Amanda Jean’s scrappy style. She has a fabulous blog that you should check out if you haven’t already! Amanda Jean is also one of the most genuinely nice people I’ve ever met:)
Connecting Threads was kind enough to send out a charm pack to make the pinnie. I decided to use my Cube Pinnie Tutorial and make a scrappy patchwork version. I cut a bunch of 1 1/2″ squares and divided them by value.
I added SF101 to the back to make it a bit more sturdy. It was a bit more challenging to sew the cube together, but I think it was worth it.
Here’s my little pincushion! I think it turned out pretty cute. And how fun are those fabrics?!
The fabrics are perfect for scrappy!
I used Faux Burlap in Charcoal from Connecting Threads for behind the pocket.
Now it’s time for the GIVEAWAY! Connecting Threads will send a charm pack to one lucky winner. All you have to do is comment below with your favorite color! This giveaway is open to US and Canadian addresses only. (Sorry to the International folk!) Mack the Chihuahua will choose a winner on Wednesday, September 16 at 10 pm est. And make sure to check out all the other pincushions! There are so many great ones:)
Today is my stop on the Charleston Blog Tour! Charleston is a new art deco line by Revive from Timeless Treasures. I used my Clutched pattern and did some alterations to make a few different sizes. Make sure you read on for the TWO giveaway chances!!
I love art deco shapes and thought this print was perfect. The metallic is subtle and really pretty. It would make a great background for a quilt. The line is full of art deco inspired prints in blues and oranges with lots of metallic accents. You can see the full collection here.
I lined the clutches with a print with a hint of blue. There is something weddingesque about the clutches so I thought “something blue” made sense. These will be a gift for my next friend to get married;)
Clutched is written for an 8×3 hard frame. I bought a 6×3 and 4.5×3 frame to test out. I removed 2″ for the 6×3 frame and 3.5″ for the 4.5×3 frame. I buy my frames here.
I removed the inches from the center of the pattern and left everything else the same. I tested out altering the boxed corners, but ended up not altering it. I was quite happy with the shape as is.
Timeless Treasures is giving away THREE fat quarter bundles of Charleston. You can enter and read more about that here.
GIVEAWAY time! One person will win one yard of Charleston fabric of their choosing AND a PDF of my Mini May Clutched pattern! It’s simple, just leave a comment and Mack the Chihuahua will choose a winner on Sunday at 6 pm est. Good luck!
