The Talented Mrs Kingwell

Jen Kingwell came to North Carolina! We kicked it off with a book signing at Sew Original! (I might have told her to wave like the queen in this photo…) Cyndy made that cute sign in Gardenvale for the event.

Then we headed to the Triad MQG for a trunk show. The guild had a blast hearing stories, asking questions and looking at all the pretties! She was a huge hit with the guild and might have even sparked a hand piecing craze!

IMG_1540.JPG

The first class was at Sew Original. I picked my fabrics including these great African waxed prints from Crimson Tate.

IMG_1563.JPG

Class was in Greensboro at Studio Stitch the next day. I had made all of this at the end of day two. I’m not going to start hand piecing everything any time soon, BUT I am sold on hand piecing an inset circle. That would have taken me twice as long on a machine and the results were perfect. No lost points!

We had fun!

IMG_1570.JPG

As we were driving home, we passed a Dash game in progress and Jen had never been to a baseball game, so we went! And we ran into Amy, who had been in class! There’s a video of Jen & me singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, but I’ll spare you…

IMG_1574-0.jpg

Obviously, Jen had to pose with Bolt!

IMG_1584.JPG

Next, we were off to the mountains for some rest, relaxation and stitching!

IMG_1604.JPG

I finished my circle after the class at Stitch in Time!

IMG_1601.JPG

My sweet family hosted a southern picnic in Blowing Rock! Pimento cheese sandwiches, fried chicken, deviled eggs…so yummy!

IMG_1610.JPG

She taught at Sew Original in Boone and then we headed to Charlotte for a trunk show at We’re Sew Creative! I finally took some quilt pictures!

IMG_1653-0.jpg

Jen is a genius!

IMG_1651-0.jpg

I love this happy row of flowers.

IMG_1656-1.jpg

So much brilliant scrappiness!

IMG_1652.JPG

Sadly I was not able to swipe one.

IMG_1655.JPG

It was a great trip full of laughter and stitching. I can’t wait for her to come back!

North Carolina Bound: Day 9!

Sunday was the final day of the trip! Sad to see it end, but such an amazing trip. Eleven states and 2900+ miles. Quite the adventure!

20130610-120628.jpg

We started the day at the Holiday Inn Express Louisville. They had a duck!

20130610-095319.jpg

We cruised through Kentucky! It is beautiful country. This is a thoroughbred retirement farm.

20130610-095336.jpg

Kentucky is just really pretty. It was one of my favorites:)

20130610-095357.jpg

It got more and more hilly!

20130610-095528.jpg

And we entered West Virginia!!

20130610-095538.jpg

There were signs to a quilt shop!! They were closed:(

20130610-095556.jpg

The bridge into Charleston!!

20130610-095611.jpg

The Capital! It’s gorgeous with the gold dome.

20130610-095631.jpg

And the bridge out of town. Please excuse the untimely bug death on the windshield.

20130610-095641.jpg

Every turn was more beautiful than the last! Absolutely stunning views!!

20130610-095710.jpg

We stopped for gas and had a Deliverance moment.

20130610-095718.jpg

We went to Tamerac! It’s a cool building full of artisans and crafts made by West Virginians!! Definitely worth a stop:)

20130610-095730.jpg

Great quilts on display!

20130610-095738.jpg

Love this log cabin.

20130610-095743.jpg

And we drive through Virginia; it’s possible I was sleeping…
And cute little Maggie was there to greet Gail! She was really excited!! (or so I’m told!)

20130610-095758.jpg

My exit!!! Did a downpour really start 20 minutes from home?! We have had great weather minus the rain at the beginning of the trip.

20130610-095811.jpg

This song came on my iPod as I turned onto my street:)

20130610-095822.jpg

And someone hopped into the car! Why hello there little man:)

20130610-095830.jpg

The whole trip was an absolute blast. I hope you’ve enjoyed riding along with me. Gail has been the absolute best travel partner! I cannot thank her enough:) We have laughed across eleven states!!

North Carolina Bound: Day 8!

Friday after the barn quilt festivities, we drove to Kansas City. We had a sweet note from Lida (one of the gals at Country Traditions). We love her!!!

20130609-105721.jpg

We wanted to be a little closer to home awesome fabric shops! We started the day at Missouri Star Quilt Company.

20130609-092835.jpg

The whole shop is full of adorableness!

20130609-093028.jpg

There is TONS of fabric!!

20130609-093132.jpg

And cute quilts everywhere!! They encourage picture taking and are happy to help you with the how-tos.

20130609-093146.jpg

I’ve always loved their online videos. It’s such a teaching shop. The staff is really the shop’s biggest asset!! They were all friendly and helpful:)

20130609-100913.jpg

If you’re ever in the area, it’s worth the trip! Look at that yumminess!!

20130609-101021.jpg

So much thread!

20130609-101137.jpg

The shop is HUGE!!

20130609-101205.jpg

My loot! Some Pezzy & Happy-Go-Lucky dots!!

20130609-104216.jpg

I also bought a few prints that I’d not seen before.

20130609-102720.jpg

And some pre-cuts…it is Missouri Star Quilt Company after all;) The prices are really good. I bought that fat quarter only because I liked the label. (The fabric is pretty cute too!) As a packaging designer in an earlier life, I love cute packaging;)

20130609-102729.jpg

Another great thing they do is EMAIL you a receipt that lists each fabric you bought in detail! That’s so handy:) The shop is in a very cute town called Hamilton; it’s not too far from Kansas City!

20130609-175201.jpg

One thing I will say about this trip…we live in a beautiful country. This is somewhere in Missouri between Hamilton and Brookfield.

20130609-111044.jpg

Then we headed to a quilt shop/Christmas tree farm. I do love my Christmas trees, but I was after fabric deals. We’d heard that nothing was over $8.99 and lots was $3.99-5.99!! And a lot of it is MODA:)

20130609-110948.jpg

I bought some Modern Vintage and dots!

20130609-111501.jpg

And this sweet Riley Blake print; I had not seen it before. It’s adorable!! The shop is delightful and the owner is just as sweet as she can be! Definitely head over if you’re in the area:)

20130609-111510.jpg

And then we headed to lunch at AJ’s in Macon! (Based on the recommendation of the ladies at Missouri Star.)

20130609-215912.jpg

We ordered the famous onion rings!! Delicious!

20130609-175535.jpg

We decided we might need to stop shopping so we just enjoyed the drive! We were not on the Interstate for a bit:/ More beautiful country!!

20130609-220216.jpg

And we passed 2000 miles for the trip! Gail “lead foot” Kuehn was driving! (Gosh, the car is dusty…)

20130609-220659.jpg

We stopped at this little gem. It’s everything you’re imagining and more…

20130609-220514.jpg

Crossing the Missouri River.

20130609-220548.jpg

I was in charge of mixing a new batch of trail mix. I was a smidge heavy on the M&M’s…yummy!

20130609-220605.jpg

Crossing back through St Louis! It felt good to be back on the east side of the Mississippi!!

20130609-220640.jpg

Tempted to head to Chicago to see Baby O! We crossed the bottom of Illinois.

20130609-222415.jpg

And then Indiana!! We made it all the way to Louisville, KY for the night:)

20130609-222444.jpg

One more day!!
