Outhouses & Shirts Deadline Approaching

We just have a couple weeks before the mailing deadline! It’s April 1. Here are all the details of the swap. I love receiving all the packages! This will be the first time that we are doing both outhouses and shirts. Remember, you get back as many outhouses as you send and as many shirts as you sent. They are not interchangeable.

I have sent out an email with the mailing information. If you did not receive it and are participating, please email me. LC at maychappell dot com. Let’s see those shirts! Let’s see those outhouses!!

Shirts 2.0!

There are so many cute shirts from the ALL SHIRTS no shoes swap! I’m overwhelmed…seriously, I couldn’t fit them in one picture!!

20140310-141518.jpg

I secretly want to keep them all! But instead I’m packaging them up and they’re spiriting around the world to their new homes! I received almost 200 shirts!!

20140310-141656.jpg

Since round one was such a success, we are doing version 2.0!! Same rules. New deadline.

20140310-142635.jpg

Here are the rules.
1. You will get back the same amount of shirts that you mail in. You can make five or five hundred. All the same fabric or different:)
2. Ship your shirts to me by June 15. If you’re international, try to ship sooner:) Once you sign up, I’ll email you my address.
3. All shirts must come from a SMOKE FREE home.
4. You must include return postage. Please send a self addressed stamped envelope; it’s much easier for me.
5. If you’re international, I will send a PayPal request for return postage.
6. When you mail your package, please attach a notecard to the inside of a gallon bag as shown. It should have the following info:
A. Your Name
B. Your Mailing Address
C. Your Email
D. How many shirts you sent.
E. Any special requests you have for the shirts you get back. (“I hate orange.” “Anything is great!” “No florals please.” “Masculine prints only.” “Love pink!”) I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to adhere to this, but I’ll try!!

20131122-103858.jpg

7. There is a Flickr group to show off your shirts! Although in the first round, most of the activity was on Instagram with the #allshirtsswap tag.

A few details about the sewing!
1. Background is white or cream. It can be anything that fits in this family, but it must be quilt shop quality (Robert Kaufman Kona, Moda Bella, FreeSpirit Solids). Robert Kaufman Kona from Joann is acceptable too! (Robert Kaufman has confirmed that if it says Robert Kaufman Kona, it is the same.) It should be solid; no tone on tones or prints. Carolyn’s white on white crosshatch is also a go!

20131122-103832.jpg

2. The shirt fabric is up to you! Use modern fun fabrics. No batiks or civil war prints please!

20131122-104007.jpg

3. Remember to use a shorter stitch length and quality neutral thread. I use Aurifil, but it’s up to you. (Aurifil is pretty awesome though.) Make sure your seams are 1/4″!

20131122-103841.jpg

4. Leave on your paper! And sign the back with your name, blog (if applicable) and location.

20131122-103849.jpg

5. The finished shirts measure 5 1/2 x 5 1/2″ so make sure that you copy your patterns at 100%. Make sure the full 1/4″ is around the outside edge.

ALL SHIRTS. No Shoes. SWAP & GIVEAWAY

So, last weekend I went to the Carolyn Friedlander trunk show. I left with a bunch of new project ideas. But my favorite was this ADORABLE pattern for SHIRTS!

20131121-182254.jpg

So cute! And so much fun to make!! The pattern is awesomely detailed and tells you how to make a shirt from a few charms! So I decided to organize a SHIRTS swap. Here are the rules.
1. You will get back the same amount of shirts that you mail in. You can make five or five hundred. All the same fabric or different:)
2. Ship your shirts to me by February 15. If you’re international, try to ship sooner:) Once you sign up, I’ll email you my address.
3. All shirts must come from a SMOKE FREE home.

5. Don’t trim up the final shirt. Or if you feel the need to trim, do it to 1/2″ so that everyone can trim them how they want. The finished shirts measure 5 1/2 x 5 1/2″ so make sure that you copy your patterns at 100%. UPDATE: If you use charms, you won’t be able to leave any additional fabric around the edges. Make sure the full 1/4″ is there:)

Lucky Thirteen

I’ve long admired the amazing work in the Doll Quilt Swap on Flickr. The quilts are between 9×9″ and 20×20″. And I think most end up as wall hangings! And they’re all just amazing- tons of details, intricate quilting and tiny piecing! Well, I was lucky enough to get into round 13!!
My partner said she liked bright neutrals/low volume with a spot of saturated color. I decided to practice my hexie making skills with some low volume fabrics.

20130216-111534.jpg
Then I hand stitched the hexies together! I chose fabrics with spots of bright color.

20130216-111741.jpg
And I used my favorite Chicopee print for a bright frame to the hexies.

20130216-112017.jpg
And some text from Mama Said Sew for the background!

20130216-112111.jpg
And then the quilting began! I did a few chevron lines to get started! Added loops through the hexies.

20130216-112435.jpg
And pebbling!

20130216-112444.jpg
And here’s the finished product!!

20130216-112841.jpg
I CANNOT wait to receive mine! There are so many that I want!!
UPDATE! Mine just arrived!! Thank you so much to the talented Betsy Lynn! It’s a gorgeous scrappy trip along! Made with all Denyse Schmidt!!

20130216-164440.jpg
The hand quilting is exquisite!! I’m in love! Lucky lucky me:)

20130216-164449.jpg
And I ADORE the label!! It’s perfect:)

20130207-091739.jpg
And the pinwheels! Eek!!

20130207-091900.jpg
