Stitching with Lorelai TUTORIAL

stitchingwithlorelai600

If you read the title of this post and thought to yourself, “Lorelai Gilmore is my spirit animal!”, then welcome to the Stitching with Lorelai stitch along. (If you thought, “Who is Lorelai?” Get thee to Netflix and start watching Gilmore Girls. You will not regret it.) For those of you already firmly on Team Luke, I’m glad you’re here! In honor of the Gilmore Girls Revival coming next week, I’ve pulled together a few of my stitchy friends who are also longing for Stars Hollow. This is a pretty simple stitch along. Each day, one of us will post a simple stitching project. Here is the line up!

Monday, November 14: Lee Chappell Monroe of May Chappell
Tuesday, November 15: Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts
Wednesday, November 16: Tessa Walker of The Sewing Chick
Thursday, November 17: Sarah Lowry of Stitching & Bacon
Friday, November 18: Elizabeth Dackson of Don’t Call Me Betsy
Saturday, November 19: Lee Chappell Monroe of May Chappell

This is a SUPER casual stitchalong! Basically, all the designs are free. We’d love for you to stitch them up while binge watching your favorite episodes or even during the second viewing of the revival. The first viewing will require focus. We are having a little giveaway on Instagram. Every time you use the hashtag #stitchingwithlorelai, you get an entry. You can post anything from choosing your floss to your finished product. Unlimited entries. On December 1, we will randomly choose a winner who will receive a SewLux gift card for $50! Special thanks to Chrissy & Linda for donating this awesome prize!

I decided to start where the series started. The perfect song for the perfect show. “Where you Lead, I will Follow.” Thank you Carole King. You can download my design here.

There are so many other fun things that are Gilmore related that are cropping up everywhere! I’m dying to make some of these coffee cups. Amy Friend of During Quiet Time made these for each of the major characters. It’s a fun game to guess the character she’s depicting. The swan for Jess made me laugh out loud! You can get her pattern here (US & International) or Etsy (US only) or Craftsy (US only).

I hope you’ll enjoy Stitching with Lorelai! Let the games begin!

My First Booth Part 4

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! (And that all the international folk enjoyed watching the Americans gorge on food.) I am feeling very thankful and blessed for the amazing year I’ve had. This is my final installment about Market and, in my mind, the most important. I owe the biggest shoutout and thank you to all those friends and family that made something/finished something for my booth! (And everyone that listened to me talk about my plans ad nauseam the past few months.) I really cannot ever thank you enough! First of all, let’s talk about Shirley Bailey, you might know her as the owner of my main local quilt store, Sew Original. For me, she’s the binding fairy. She hand bound almost every quilt in my booth. You might know that I’m picky and her binding is PERFECT. Absolutely perfect. Shirley, I owe you:) I seriously don’t know what I would have done without you.

My sweet friend Tessa pieced and quilted this beauty! I had cut the fabric and knew that I wouldn’t get to it. I mailed it to Tessa and the USPS ate the package. So, I cut it again and mailed it off. She finished it (in about five days!) and shipped it directly to my hotel in Houston. She’s a really good friend. A really, really good friend. It’s going to be a free pattern coming soon:)

IMG_7598.JPG

Sarah made this table runner with my Blue Ridge Quilt Pattern. We facetimed and picked really great fabrics. I love her quilting choices! She’s the best!!

IMG_7548.JPG

Kelly Wood quilted this for me! I’ve stolen the image from Quilters Dream Instagram account; they took a fabulous photo. Kelly used two layers of Quilters Dream Select batting to make the quilting really show. I pieced this top with half square triangles based on my All Squared Up pattern.

IMG_7599.PNG

She hid so many little gems in this piece. There’s a bee that’s an homage to the Flora & Fauna fabric that I used.

IMG_7069.JPG

And she quilted honeycombs. Needless to say, she’s pretty amazing.

IMG_7547.JPG

It was over:( I sent my quilts off to Country Fabrics in Minnesota for a trunk show. This was a huge relief as it cleared some room in the car.

IMG_7606.JPG

Taking it all down is MUCH faster than putting it up!

IMG_7607.JPG

My last big thank you is to my Mom & Dad. My Dad built my booth and went on countless Home Depot treks! (More on that later.) The booth was amazing and exactly as I wanted it to be. My Mom was my right hand man/The Guru/Chief Minion. She abandoned all her own sewing projects for the past two months to help me. I could not have done it without her. When I decided to do my first market booth, I asked them to help and they both jumped on board. I’m not sure any of us knew what we were getting into. I always joke that it’s a miracle that they answer my calls.

I’m already looking forward to Minneapolis in the Spring!

Tessa Visits the TMQG

My friend Tessa did an amazing job presenting to the TMQG. Kim took pictures for me (I was holding quilts.), so that I could share them all here. Her quilting journey made for a great story and she brought plenty of eye candy. Here’s her granny square quilt.

And this gorgeous hexagon log cabin. It’s a tutorial on her blog.

20140628-104816-38896226.jpg

This little beauty is also a tutorial! Tessa writes very detailed instructions for this herringbone.

20140628-104906-38946182.jpg

One of the most interesting parts of Tessa’s program was about her journey to quilting. She had wanted to make a quilt and really embraced, “no time like the present!!” She’s a no regrets girl with a positive attitude! I knew she was awesome before the program, but hearing her share made me really proud to be her friend.

20140628-105056-39056076.jpg

Seeing all her quilts in person was magical. They’re all just so pretty. I love her sense of color on this churn dash. Her piecing is impeccable!

20140628-105201-39121845.jpg

This one is a Cluck Cluck Sew pattern. She’d started it during a retreat we were on together, so I was thrilled to see the result.

20140628-105232-39152087.jpg

I’m plotting to steal this The Birds & The Bees stacked quilt!!

20140629-084254-31374599.jpg

This quilt is so Tessa! The colors are gorgeous!! She arranged these blocks a bunch of different ways before settling on this design.

20140629-084254-31374983.jpg

She also has an Ohio Star tutorial for this beauty!

20140629-084914-31754347.jpg

Liz made an adorable apron as a thanks for coming gift! I think she likes it!!

Thanks so much for coming Tessa! You’re one talented lady!!

As you might know, I’m active with the Triad Modern Quilt Guild. (I’m President.) I’m thrilled that our program this Tuesday is Tessa Walker aka The Sewing Chick! She’s an uber talented quilter and sewist. And I’m lucky that she’s also one of my dearest friends!!

Her skills are all around amazing! Check out this weekender!!

20140622-195545-71745716.jpg

She writes excellent tutorials! This kit has been on my to do list for quite some time! She did it for Benartex and you can link to it from here.

20140622-200716-72436997.jpg

Tessa has a lovely sense of color. Her projects are fresh feeling. I love this quilt!

20140622-200345-72225811.jpg

Her patchwork is so homey. I want to curl up with this beauty.
