Who’s a fan of Corey Yoder?! She’s the awesome designer behind quite a few stunning Moda collections, including her latest, Lulu Lane. Corey is also a pattern designer under the clever name Coriander Quilts and author of Playful Petals.
And let’s get real for a second, she’s one of my favorite people in the quilting world. She’s quick witted with a kind, generous personality. It’s hard to find a more genuinely wonderful person. We taught together at Stitchfest last year and instantly became buds. You will love her!
Now that I’ve talked her up, you can meet her in person if you’re local. She’s coming to Triad MQG on Tuesday, March 28 for a trunk show. We meet at Southfork Community Center on Country Club at 6:30 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month. There is a $5 fee at the door for out of town speakers. We are also offering a workshop!! The workshop will be Wednesday, March 29 from 10-4, also at Southfork. The workshop is $75 for TMQG members and $85 for non-members. The workshop fee includes a copy of her book, Playful Petals. To sign up, email TriadMQG at gmail dot com and reserve your spot.
We will be making the gorgeous Petal Pillow on the cover of her book! And we will be getting a hand quilting lesson in the afternoon. Corey is a master hand quilter! I’m already picking my fabrics for the pillow!
Sara Lawson aka Sew Sweetness, the fabulous blogger and bag maker extraordinaire is coming to Winston Salem! Sara is also the author of the hugely popular book, Big City Bags. She will be speaking at the Triad Modern Quilt Guild on Tuesday, September 23 & doing a workshop on September 24 at Sewingly Yours!
For the workshop, we are making the Miss Independent! I can’t wait to hear Sara’s tips and tricks!! The workshop is Wednesday, September 24 from 9-3. It’s $90 ($80 if you’re a MQG member) and includes the book. We are having a stabilizer and cutting party at Sewingly Yours on Monday, September 22 from 2-5 for those who want to get their class prep work done in a supportive (and fun!) environment! Make sure you call the shop to reserve your spot for the workshop; there are a couple seats left.
Sara truly lives up to her name, Sew Sweetness! She’s one of the nicest gals you’ll ever meet! She’s also author if a fabulous line of patterns.
And if you’re not already tired just thinking about all this, she’s a fabric designer for Art Gallery fabrics! Her line, Jungle Ave is currently available!
I’m so excited that Sara’s visit is almost here! We’ve been plotting it since January! The TMQG meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Southfork Community Center at 6:30. Hope y’all can join in the fun!
It’s a big week here in Winston! Dana Bolyard of Old Red Barn Co. is coming to town to share her quilts and celebrate her new book, Imagine Quilts! She will be at Sew Original for a book signing from 2-4 on Tuesday. The Triad MQG will host her trunk show at 6:30 that evening. We meet at Southfork Community Center behind Cricket’s Nest on Country Club. (Books will also be available at the guild meeting.) Visitors always welcome! Dana is also doing a workshop on Wednesday at Sew Original. I hear it’s full, but you can join the waiting list.
It’s going to be a great quilty week!! Dana is as sweet as she is talented and I’ve been looking forward to this for months!
My friend Tessa did an amazing job presenting to the TMQG. Kim took pictures for me (I was holding quilts.), so that I could share them all here. Her quilting journey made for a great story and she brought plenty of eye candy. Here’s her granny square quilt.
And this gorgeous hexagon log cabin. It’s a tutorial on her blog.
This little beauty is also a tutorial! Tessa writes very detailed instructions for this herringbone.
One of the most interesting parts of Tessa’s program was about her journey to quilting. She had wanted to make a quilt and really embraced, “no time like the present!!” She’s a no regrets girl with a positive attitude! I knew she was awesome before the program, but hearing her share made me really proud to be her friend.
Seeing all her quilts in person was magical. They’re all just so pretty. I love her sense of color on this churn dash. Her piecing is impeccable!
This one is a Cluck Cluck Sew pattern. She’d started it during a retreat we were on together, so I was thrilled to see the result.
I’m plotting to steal this The Birds & The Bees stacked quilt!!
This quilt is so Tessa! The colors are gorgeous!! She arranged these blocks a bunch of different ways before settling on this design.
She also has an Ohio Star tutorial for this beauty!
Liz made an adorable apron as a thanks for coming gift! I think she likes it!!
Thanks so much for coming Tessa! You’re one talented lady!!
As you might know, I’m active with the Triad Modern Quilt Guild. (I’m President.) I’m thrilled that our program this Tuesday is Tessa Walker aka The Sewing Chick! She’s an uber talented quilter and sewist. And I’m lucky that she’s also one of my dearest friends!!
Her skills are all around amazing! Check out this weekender!!
She writes excellent tutorials! This kit has been on my to do list for quite some time! She did it for Benartex and you can link to it from here.
Tessa has a lovely sense of color. Her projects are fresh feeling. I love this quilt!
Her patchwork is so homey. I want to curl up with this beauty.
TMQG meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Southfork Community Center on Country Club at 6:30. Visitors and new members always welcome!
Tuesday night is going to be big fun at the Triad Modern Quilt Guild! Karen Gray of Karen Gray Design will be our guest speaker! She’ll be showing off her amazing talents and generally being awesome. Karen is full of great ideas and makes beautiful things! She made this cute bed for Mack the Chihuahua.
We meet at Southfork Community Center on Country Club at 6:30pm. It’s the large building behind Cricket’s Nest. We always meet the fourth Tuesday of the month. See you there!
