It All Started with a Star

“Several years ago, I took a class with Judith Doenias on how to draw your own star pattern for a quilt block. I made a block with three stars in it and sat looking at it for some time. At that time, I had just started to make square fabric bowls with interior designs based on quilt blocks. So I decided to make the jump to a round bowl so that I could fit my star design into it. After working on bowls with star designs, I realized that the round shape lends itself to making bowls based on flowers, and all kinds of designs began to emerge to create this book.”

—Kirsten Fisher, author of Round Fabric Art Bowls.

I was recently sent a preview copy of Round Fabric Art Bowls by Kirsten Fisher. And let me tell you, these are some stunning bowls. I've not yet made a bowl, but I thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy and approachable style of this book. This is Kirsten's second book and focuses on creating round bowls. From stars to dresdens, she creates interesting and useful bowls with a foundation in quilting design. A star is a perfect centerpiece to a fabric bowl.

Kirsten shows how to use different fabric designs to create the focus of your bowl.

A really nice thing about the book is that Kirsten outlines how you can adjust the bowls. You can change the sizes or alter the dresdens; she's anticipated the bowls you might be inspired to create and provided clear and concise directions to aid you in every step. She also shows multiple versions for inspiration.

Overall, this book made me want to make some bowls! I have long been a rope bowl fan and I even have a few ideas to add to the rope bowl making.
